Carolyn A. Mills

Carolyn A. Mills, 86, formerly of Leesburg, Florida, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015.  She and her husband Rhod (deceased), had been residents at the Life Care Center in Punta Gorda, Florida, since moving there in 2011. 

Carolyn retired in 1983 from a long teaching career with New Lexington City Schools in Ohio.  Although she taught briefly in the upper grades, her real love was teaching kindergarten students to read their first words, and almost any baby boomer who grew up in New Lexington went through her classroom.  After retiring, she and Rhod moved to Pennbrooke Fairways in Leesburg.  Both she and Rhod remained very active in church and community activities until their health forced them to move to full-time care.  Carolyn was a long-time member of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, Leesburg Women's Club and was inducted into the NLHS Teacher Hall of Fame in 2008.  She and Rhod started the American Cancer Society chapter in Perry County and remained active with the Cancer Society and other charities in Florida. 

She is survived by son Ron (Tobi) of Punta Gorda; sisters Barbara Mooney of New Lexington, Ohio and Donna (Tom) Catchpole of Summerfield; sister-in-law Gladie Erdman of Tampa and brother-in-law Ron Mills of Stuart; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be from  6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, July 10, 2015 and from 11:00am-12:00noon on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio

Funeral service will be held at 12:00noon on Saturday at the funeral home with Reverend Richard Newlon officiating.

Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery.
