Charles A. (Chuck) Smith , 90, of Lancaster Ohio  passed away peacefully  on Sunday,  May 10, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s at the Lanfair nursing home in Lancaster Ohio surrounded by his loving  family. 

He was born March 2, 1925 to the late Patrick and Irene Kelly Smith and is survived by his high school sweet heart and wife of 69 years Betty Lee Diller Smith.  He attended Saint Rose School and graduated from New Lexington High School. He served in the US Navy in World War II and attended Rio Grand College soon after the war.  He was the owner of Charles A Smith Nationwide Insurance and Charles A Smith Real Estate in Somerset Ohio.  Treasurer of the New Lexington Cemetery Board.  Member of the board of directors of the First Federal Savings Bank of Roseville Ohio. He was a member of the BPOE  Elks Lodge  #509, New Lexington, Ohio and Leo Ryan Post #58, American Legion, Somerset, Ohio.

He was survived by his loving  children  Vicky Hertzer (Richard) of  Lancaster , Steven (Lisa ) of Upper Arlington, David (Michelle) of Somerset,  Kathy Wagner (Scott) of Lancaster  and Janet of Phoenix, AZ. Grandchildren, Christa Prince,  Sandra Hertzer,   Tyler, Hannah, Katherine and Jennifer Smith,  Amanda Smith,  Patrick Wagner and Ashley Schexnider. Great grandchildren , Zach, Landon, Jillian and Ava Schexnider of Lake Charles, LA.  Many loving nieces, nephews and good friends. 

Preceded in death by his granddaughter Jillian Davidson, brother Captain John Smith (Sally) and sisters Eleanor Mooney (William), Mary Smith (Rodney) and Margaret Will (Jacob).

He was a fun loving man that never met a stranger. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Calling hours will be held from 5-8 pm Friday May 15th with Elks services at 7:45pm and Wake service at 8pm at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home , 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio .

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00noon on Saturday May 16th at the Saint Rose Catholic Church, Main and Water Streets in New Lexington, Ohio with Father Thomas Kessler as celebrant.

 Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery with graveside military services by Leo Ryan Post #58, American Legion, Somerset, Ohio.

Following the burial, funeral dinner will be held in the Saint Rose Parish Community Center, upper level, catered by Berwick Manor.

A special thanks to the care givers at the Lanfair Nursing Home and the FairHoPe hospice for their excellent support and care.
