Sara J. (Porter) Bankes

Sara J. Bankes, 83, of Zanesville, Ohio died at 7:20pm on Monday, September 5, 2016 at The Lindley Inn, The Plains, Ohio.

Born July 17, 1933 in Jackson, Ohio to the late Hugh and Jesse Carter Porter.

Sara was Methodist by faith; volunteered for the Salvation Army, loved to play cards, was a great cook and known for her excellent pies.

Survived by 3 sons, Jerry (Cindy) Bankes of New Lexington, Scott Bankes of Malta and Keith Bankes of Zanesville; 4 grandchildren, Kyle (Kathleen) Bankes of Somerset, Kristen (Derek) Guenther of New Albany, Clint (Rachel) Bankes of Columbus and Evan Bankes of Glouster; 6 great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Jackson, Caroline, Sophia, Graham and Reid; sister, Edith Powell of The Plains; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, preceded in death by her husband, George L. Bankes on November 21, 2013; 2 sisters, Virginia Vance and Marjorie Rose.

Calling hours will be held from 4pm-8pm on Thursday, September 8, 2016 and from 10am-11am on Friday at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend Dortha Ross officiating.

Burial will be in Community Gardens Cemetery, New Lexington, Ohio.
