William F. Shumaker, 87, of Lancaster, formerly of New Lexington, Ohio died at 2:25am on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Ohio.
He was born Monday, November 4, 1929 in Pomeroy, Ohio to the late William C. and Eula V. Montgomery Shumaker.
Bill was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in New Lexington. He was a self employed barber and worked previously as a coal miner for the Shumaker Brothers Coal Company in New Lexington, Ohio. Bill especially enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting coins, hunting ginseng, fishing along with trapping and hunting.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter, Frank (Teresa) Shumaker of Festus, MO, Tim (Cathy) Shumaker of Lancaster, OH and Julia (Mike) Friel of Nacogdoches, TX. Five brothers and sisters, Crayton Shumaker of Dresden, Irene McGreevy of Cincinnati, Thelma (Bill) Hunt of St. Augustine, FL, Leo (Mary Anne) Shumaker of Melbourne, FL and Marie (Paul) Karpik of Columbus. Nine grandchildren, Charles (Alicia) Hannigan, Bill Cattrell, Crystal Echols, Samantha (Andy) Slaydon, Danielle Ferretiz, Trevor (Missy) Friel, Whitney Friel, Michael (Crystal) Freeman, Maggie (Drew) Cannon and Elizabeth (Erick) Shumaker Paz and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, preceded in death by his wife, Wanda L. Shumaker, June 6, 1998; daughters, Marsha Cattrell and Tina Groves as well as sisters, Mary K. Tharp, Bessie Masterson.
Calling hours will be held from 4pm-8pm on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio and from 10am-11am on Thursday at the church
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 126 South High Street, New Lexington, Ohio with Reverend Greg Inboden officiating.
Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery
