Richard Phillips

Richard L. Phillips Sr., 89, of New Lexington, Ohio died Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio,

Born December 31, 1934 in Parsonsville, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Flotilla May Gensler Phillips.

Richard was a United States Army Veteran, he loved his family, he loved working in the coal mines, and he had a great level of wisdom and ornery sense of humor.

He is survived by his children, Cathy Phillips, Eric (Shannon) Phillips and Melinda Phillips; step-children, Becky Thomas, Jody McKenzie and Bruce McKenzie; grandchildren, Matthew Phillips, Mark Phillips, Nichole Walters, Amanda Jeffers, Jessica Cain, Shae Phillips, Ezra Phillips, Krystina Krinn, Bret Stacy, Derek Stacy, Megan Groff, Cassie Thomas, Melissa Azbell and Heath McKenzie; brother, William “Bill” Phillips.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Ardith Hensley Phillips; second wife, Virginia McKenzie Phillips; son, Richard Phillips Jr., siblings, John Phillips, Abraham Phillips, Joseph Phillips, Clair Phillips, Ruby Phillips Berg, Charles Phillips, Cora Phillips Dufour, Thomas Phillips, Emma May Phillips, Mary Phillips, Leona “Toots” Phillips Beere, James “Doc” Phillips, Shirley “Tiny” Phillips Hockenberry and step-son, Mike McKenzie.

Calling hours will be held 5-8pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024 and 12-1pm on Friday at Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.

Funeral will be held at 1pm on Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Funeral Home with Reverend Karen Walters officiating.

Burial will follow at Community Gardens Cemetery, New Lexington, Ohio.
