Dolores Irene (Mollenkamp) Hannah passed away from this world willingly, with an alert mind and quick wit on February 14th, 2018 at Chapel Grove Inn in Heath. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Bruce Hannah, her parents, and three brothers: Clarence, Bernard, and Lawrence Mollenkamp. Her first husband, Robert Norris, died during WWII while flying a training mission in the states as a tail gunner on a bomber.
Dolores was born on November 9, 1918, in Shawnee to Bernard and Elizabeth Hughes Mollenkamp. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1936, where she was active in chorus, plays, and girls' basketball. Her job on the team was to "get the ball" to OHSAA Hall of Fame inductee, Alice Norris Roberts Harbarger, who recognized Dolores during her acceptance speech for being as feisty today as she was when they were teammates. After learning of Alice's induction, Dolores lamented that she also should have been inducted for being the one who "got the ball to Alice" those many years ago.
Following graduation she was manager of Niekerk's Variety Store, bookkeeper for Reedurban Coal Company, and tire clerk for the ration board during the war. She was a graduate of Bustin School of Cosmetology in Columbus and worked as a stylist in both New Lexington and Shawnee. Dolores is a member of the Shawnee United Methodist Church, Eastern Star 151, and past member of Advance Club II and Flossie Wilbur Circle. She was an avid reader, sports fan, and had a deep love and appreciation of music. The many friends Dolores made during her life learned early on that if you asked for her opinion she would tell you what you needed to hear, not what you wanted to hear. Her greatest joy, however, was found in her role of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Left to mourn her loss and cherish many memories are two daughters: Marsha (Tom) Maxwell and Cindy (Jerry) Bankes. Grandchildren: Julie Maxwell (Justin Stoddard), Kyle (Kathleen) Bankes, Lyndi Maxwell (Dave L'Heureux), Kristen (Derek) Guenther, and Clint (Rachel) Bankes. Great-grandchildren: Nickolas, Jackson, Sophia, and Caroline Bankes, Graham and Reid Guenther, and Charlotte Bankes. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Bernice Raymann, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Friends may call from 4-8 pm on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the funeral home with Reverend Richard Newlon officiating.
Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery.
