Evelyn Garner, 104, of New Lexington, Ohio, formerly of Buchtel and Nelsonville died at 8:00pm on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Altercare of Somerset, Ohio.
Born September 15, 1913 in Buchtel, Ohio to the late John and Emma Griffis Rife.
During World War II, Mrs. Garner worked as a boot maker and enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe when she retired. She attributed her long life to faith and a healthy lifestyle. Member of the First United Methodist Church of New Lexington.
The only surviving sibling of a family of 18 brothers and sisters, Mrs. Garner enjoyed spending time with her six grandchildren that include, Gloria (Mike) LaBeau of Naples, FL., Beverly (Dan) Dubin of Akron, OH., Dr. Mark (Anne) McGee of Athens, OH., Jeff (Marissa) McGee of Somerset, OH., Brian (Lori) McGee of Canal Winchester, OH. and Marla (Dave) Moore of Dublin, OH., great-grandchildren, Lori (Tom) Rogala, Amy (Rick) Mazurowski, Rachel (Kyle) Johnson, Allison (Vince) DeVitis, Claire McGee, Sam McGee, Sara (Scott) Hedges, Molly (Brian) Thomas, Maggi McGee, Allie Moore, Jacob Moore and Zachary Moore; 12 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Tinto of New Lexington, OH., and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and siblings, Mrs. Garner and her late husband, William “Bill” who passed away in 1999, had one daughter, the late Barbara Tinto, who passed away in 2015.
Calling hours will be held from 10am-11am with funeral service at 11:00am with Reverend Greg Inboden officiating on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.
Burial will follow in Dew Cemetery, Buchtel, Ohio.
