Rodger Vaughn “Boomer” Bowers, 84, of Duncan Falls, Ohio, formerly of New Lexington, Ohio died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House, Zanesville, Ohio.
Born December 31, 1933 to the late Donald Bowers and Florence Wolfe Bowers Spohn.
Rodger worked at Western Electric out of High School, when he came back to town he went to work for his father-in-law, Rex Huffman, and then started his own drilling business-Bowers drilling in 1965. In 1967 they merged and became Huffman Bowers, where he remained President until 1999 when he retired. He loved to camp, fish, travel, play cards, gardening, woodworking, coin collecting, spending time with grandchildren, always had dogs, hunted game animals, he loved seafood, seagulls and the ocean.
He was a member of B.P.O.E #509, New Lexington; Eagles; Jaycees; Ohio Oil and Gas Association. Forever young at heart, he always enjoyed pulling pranks on others.
Survived by his spouse, Diane “Billie” Bowers of the home; his children, Susan (Thomas) Ferraro, Julie (Frank) Ratliff, Angela White and Barry (Paula) Bowers; grandchildren, Lejay Colborn, Rikki Grace, Tracey Metzger, Brian Ratliff, Joshua Bowers, Jared Bowers, Jorden Lindsey, Jacob Bowers, Kristin White, Kelly White Rightmire; 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; step-children, Jeana Cogswell and Tom (Teresa) Maxwell; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Denton and Emily Maxwell; also special friends, Dick and Sandy Reeves.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at B.P.O.E. #509, Elks Lodge, 109 South Main Street, New Lexington, Ohio in the lower level.
