Anita Yvonne Yazzie,
Born May 19, 1970, in Cottonwood, Arizona, passed away on October 24, 2025, in New Lexington, Ohio. The world is undeniably a little less warm without her radiant presence.
Anita lived with a larger-than-life spirit that filled every room she entered. She had a gift for joy — the kind that bubbled up in her contagious laugh, the kind that turned practical jokes into cherished memories, the kind that made everyone around her feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. Her loyalty was steadfast, and she showed up for the people she loved in ways big and small, always taking time to understand the lives her children built and the people in them.
She was most at home in nature — frolicking in ocean waves from sunrise to dusk, kayaking across calm water, cooking over a campfire, or wandering through the outdoors with a heart wide open to adventure. Anita embraced every new experience, especially new foods, and she approached life with a sense of curiosity and joy that inspired those around her.
Her warm, enveloping hugs were legendary — the kind that made the world feel safer, softer, and more manageable. And in recent months, she found her brightest joy of all: becoming CoCo to her precious granddaughter, Joanna Louise. Anita loved being a mother with her whole heart, and stepping into her new role as CoCo brought her a radiant, undeniable happiness. Joanna was the light she had been waiting for.
Anita is survived by her children, Brittani Melick and TJ Melick; her beloved granddaughter, Joanna Louise; and her lifelong best friend, Melissa Denehy.
A celebration of life will be held in 2026. Anyone who wishes to be notified of the service details may contact Brittani, TJ, or Melissa.
