Clarence "Bing" Crosby Obituary

Born October 20, 1938 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to the late Richard and Grace Long Crosby, he was the 11th child in a family of 10 brothers and 2 sisters.  In 1957, he joined the US Navy, serving most of his time as a radio operator on the USS Ajax - traveling to Japan, Hawaii, and stationed for a time in San Diego.  After the Navy, he returned to Greensburg and married Jeanne Walthour in October of 1963.  Bing began working at Ralston Purina in Harrisburg, PA, relocating to Georgia, and then finally to Ohio, residing in New Lexington since 1974.  After working many years at Ralston, Bing was happy to retire in 1994.  Retirement gave him more time to enjoy his hobbies of hunting, fishing, woodworking, and driving buses for the New Lexington City Schools which included numerous sporting events and field trips. Additionally, he took on part time jobs at Foraker Gas, Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home and the Fun Bus. He also loved spending time with his family.

With their trusty RV, Bing and Jeanne embarked on many adventures across the US, including Alaska. He was a proud member of the New Lexington American Legion, Post 188 serving as a Post Commander; Lions Club, for which he held the office of President; and member of the First United Methodist Church. While subdued most of the year, Bing’s enthusiasm and holiday cheer came alive full force through his Christmas lights. He was always proud of his display and loved sharing the joy of Christmas with the community.

Bing is survived by his wife Jeanne of 60 years; daughters Debbie Crosby (Bill Fisher) and Vickie (Patrick) Mann; granddaughters Shanda (Daniel) Wyrick and Kelsey (Jordan) Wheeler; and great-grandsons Ethan and Caden Wyrick; brothers Harry, Jim, and Bill; and many nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bing is preceded in death by his sisters and six brothers.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at the New Lexington Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Central Ohio for the wonderful care of Bing over the past year.
