Dean L. Dickson of Junction City, Ohio, died unexpectedly Monday, March 1st, 2021. He was born September 4th, 1952 to the late Merle and Maurine Dickson. He graduated from New Lexington High School in 1970. He attended Ohio Northern University majoring in music, then enlisted in the Airforce Reserve from 1971-1975.
Dean worked for People's National Bank for almost twenty years until he became a lightning strike victim. He was a member of the Elks 509, former OHSAA umpire, and a New Lexington School District board member for eight years.
Dean was an avid outdoorsman with the love of camping, fishing, hunting, and scuba diving. His dream was to take all of his grandchildren to Canada. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing.
Singing, playing guitar, and piano was his passion. His love for music started in his youth and has continued until his passing. He was in the New Lexington High School marching band, Dixieland Band, and started "Up with People." He also sang in the Lion's Club minstrels. He was a former choir director of the First United Methodist Church and sang with the Perry County Pantry Players. Dean showed his theatrical talent in several high school musicals and recently in the Calvary Arts production of "Is Anyone There".
Dean was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Anyone who ever met Dean knew that he loved to share his many stories of his life experiences.
Dean is survived by his wife Cathy of forty-eight years; daughters Monica R. Dickson Hoover and Melissa A. Dickson; granddaughter Jenessa Hoover; grandsons Conner, Ethan and Keaton Spicer. Brothers David R. (Rita) Dickson of New Albany and Dale L. (Teresa) Dickson of Alexandra. Brothers-in-law Daniel (Sharon), David (Melly), John (Judy), Stephen (Sheree) and Thomas Boyden. Sisters-in law Anne (Francis) Brown, Mary (Dick) Saegert, Patricia Thorne, Elizabeth (Jeff Dutiel) Boyden. Jewel Boyden and Roswitha Boyden. Also numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Julia Stough and Pirom Boyden. Brothers-in-law Raymond, Paul and Michael Boyden, Robert Stough and Eddie Ransom Hall.
Calling hours will be held from 4pm-7pm on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio and from 9am-10am on Friday at the church.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, March 5, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, 126 South High Street, New Lexington, Ohio with Reverend Greg Inboden officiating.
Private memorial burial will take place at New Lexington Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church.
