Donald Joseph Carney went home to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 22, 2021.
Don was born January 30, 1930 and raised in New Lex; he worked many different jobs and served in the National Guards. He graduated in 1949 then went into the Air Force. When stationed at Ohare field, he met and married his wife, Lois M. Freeman in 1951 and they were married 70 years, had 6 children and returned to New Lex in 1964.
He was a wonderful husband and father, neighbor friend and co-worker. He had a way to make each person he knew feel special.
He retired from Peabody Coal after 20 years. He was an all around handyman who loved woodworking, gardening, bowling and playing games. Don was a member of the New Lexington Bible Church and John Tague Post #188, American Legion of New Lexington.
He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Lois; his children, Debbie Dennis, Pam and Chuck Moritz, Donna Carney, Linda and Ben Harris, David and Tammy Carney; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Brother, Albert and Eileen Carney; Sister, Karen Cheney and Sister-in-law, Sharon Carney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gertrude Saunders Carney; son, Stephen Carney; granddaughter, Cassie Carney; his son-in-law, George P. Dennis; his sister and brother-in-law, LeeAnn and Ron Harris; his brother, Ken Carney and his brother-in-law, Ken Cheney.
Calling hours will be held from 10am-12pm with funeral service at 12:00pm with Pastor Chris Brown officiating on Monday, November 29, 2021 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.
Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery with graveside military services by John Tague Post #188, American Legion of New Lexington, Ohio.
