Donald E. Shaner

Donald E. “Gene” Shaner, 95, of San Augustine, TX, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at Stone Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in Texas.

 He was born October 13, 1929, in Perry County, to the late Robert & Blanche Shaner.

Gene married Ellen Joanne (Klinger) Shaner on April 7, 1951, at First United Methodist Church in New Lexington, where they started a loving family. Gene later retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1992. “Dingy” enjoyed getting to spend his free time with all his granddaughters following his retirement.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded death by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Joanne Shaner; his oldest son, Bruce Shaner; sisters, Mona and Betty; and brothers, Lewis, Charles, Albert and Robert.

Gene is survived by one daughter, Lisa Shaner; his youngest son, Donald “Scott” Shaner; two brothers, Ray and Dick; two sisters, Donna and Blanche; six grandchildren, Kristin, Kelli, Ashley, Amanda, Abbey and Melissa; eight great grandchildren, Dean, Emma, Kayden, Cora, Wyatt, Lucas, Harper and Adalyn.

Burial will be held in Rehoboth Cemetery.

The family to like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Stone Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation for the special care and attention given to their father and grandfather during his stay
