Edward J. “ED” Hoops, 72, of New Lexington, Ohio died Saturday, January 20, 2024 at his home in New Lexington, Ohio.
He was born December 17, 1951 in Zanesville, Ohio to the late Ezra James and Florence McCune Hoops.
Edward was a member of the East Fultonham United Methodist Church. He retired from the City of Zanesville after 27 years of service as a water treatment plant operator. He was an artist and wood carver. He loved hunting, fishing, and metal detecting. He also loved his wife and children, and he adored his grandchildren. He was a very selfless man and found genuine joy in filling blessing boxes around New Lex.
He is survived by his wife of 51 plus years, Brenda Wood Hoops; children, James (Jean) Hoops, Angela (Jeff) Luke, Trina (Randy) Evans and Michelle Hoops (Jon Acheson); 12 grandchildren, McKenzie (Warren) Street, Nate and Katie Luke, Gary Lovsey,III, Dakota Starner, Haylea (Marcus Dille), Austin Starner; August and Zoey Spears, Joshua McKinney, Abby and E.J. Acheson; 5 great-grandchildren, Gannon Street, Sklynn and Dylan Starner, Tianah and Xavier Dille; 3 sisters, Ruth Wilson, Pat (JR) Forgrave and Peggy Owens and brother-in-law, Roger Newlon.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy (Rex) Wood and Nancy Newlon; 2 infant grandsons, James and Matthew Hoops.
Calling hours will be held 4-7 pm on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the funeral home with Pastor Clyde Boring officiating.
Burial will follow at New Lexington Cemetery, New Lexington, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perry County Cancer Alliance or by donating blood to the American Red Cross.
