Eugene E Poling

Eugene E. Poling, 95 of New Lexington, Ohio passed away peacefully at the New Lexington Health Care Rehabilitation Center at 8:58am on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Gene was born on July 1, 1926 and lived his entire life in New Lexington. Gene was the son of the late Webster and Mary (Stevens) Poling.

Gene and Esther were Co-owners, with Esther’s parents, John & Leoma McGaughey, of the Dinner Bell for 8 years serving many people with food and ice cream treats. To this day, he could remember what your usual order was!

Gene was a 1944 graduate of New Lexington High School. He served on the New Lexington School Board for 12 years. He was a member of the Perry Country Golf Club where he spent time with his golfing buddies and family. He had a hole-in-one on #3. Gene was a United States Navy Veteran during WW II, a member of John Tague Post #188, American Legion of New Lexington, the First United Methodist Church of New Lexington, B.P.O.E #509 of New Lexington where he enjoyed playing cards with his friends, he worked for the New Lexington Post Office where he retired as Postmaster and was an associate of Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home for 50+ years

Gene was an amazing and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Gene never missed a sporting event cheering on his children and grandchildren.

Survived by his children, Bob (Sherry) Poling, Don (Carol) Poling, Mike (Aldonna) Poling and Cindy (Tom) Russell; 24 grandkids; 29 great-grandkids; Also is survived by his brother Jim (Betty) Poling of Columbus, brother-in-law John McGaughey of Junction City and Dick Adcock formally of Somerset, Ohio and sister-in-law Betty Tucker of Canal Winchester, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, preceded in death by the love of his life and best friend of 65 years, Esther (McGaughey) Poling. His in-laws, John and Leoma McGaughey, his brother, Roger (Pat) Poling, Ruth (Jim) Pletcher, Nancy Adcock and Judy McGaughey.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4pm & 6-8pm with Elks services at 7:45pm and Legion services at 8pm on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 14, 2022 at the funeral home with Reverend Richard Newlon officiating.

Burial will follow in  New Lexington Cemetery with graveside military services by John Tague Post #188, American Legion, New Lexington, Ohio.
