Frances Pauline Holcomb Shumaker died on November 3, 2021 at SKLD in New Lexington, Ohio.
Pauline was born in Pleasant Township to Ross Auvergne and Frances Winona Schwartzel Holcomb on July 7, 1926. She graduated from McLuney High School in 1944 where she was a member of the band and chorus. She was honored at her 75th alumni reunion in 2019.
Pauline was married to Rheuben Shumaker on July 19, 1947. They were happily married for 47 years.
Pauline was a child during the depression on the farm and she kept some of those saving habits for a lifetime. Pauline was the happiest around family and friends and enjoyed celebrations, long walks around the North Avenue neighborhood, and attending grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. She enjoyed scenic rides on the country roads of Perry County with her siblings and friends. Pauline was actively involved in the Oakfield Baptist Church where she had a deep appreciation for music and was organist and pianist for over 70 years and belonged to the women’s church circle. Her greatest joy, however, was found in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Pauline is survived by her children: Karen (Dick) Newlon, New Lexington; David (Barbara) Shumaker, Rushville; and Brent (Cary) Shumaker, Pinetop, Arizona; grandchildren: Kristin (Ryan) Lee; Kim (Tom) Sipes; Kelly Newlon; Katie (Andy) Blumenschein; Holli (Jason) Winters; Harmony (Andy) Norman; David (Jenna Purdy) Shumaker; and Justin (Jess) McClintock; great grandchildren: Jenna (Jared) Elleman; Alli and Cori Lee; Anna and Brooklyn Sipes; Alex and Evan Blumenschein; Hadley, Emmy, and Brock Winters; Hayden and Avery Norman; and Lincoln and Adler McClintock; sister Ruth Allen and sisters-in-law: Betty Tracy and Mary Alice Shumaker. She also had many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Rheuben, in 1994, her siblings: Dorothy Holcomb; Bernard (Louella) Holcomb; Rodney (Bertha) Holcomb; Margery (Rev. J. Brooks) Gregory; William (Elsie) Holcombe; Orma Mae Holcomb; in-laws: Estel (Delmar) Hollingshead; Richard (Yvonne) Shumaker; Gail (Marilyn) Shumaker; Paul Shumaker; and Ludlow Tracy.
