Gladys Briggs

Ina Gladys Deye Briggs, 91, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024 in Columbus, Ohio.

Gladys was born in Whitley, Kentucky on January 11, 1933, daughter of Levi and Lucinda Meadows Carr.

She retired from the United States Postal Service in addition to owning and operating her own catering business in Perry County for a number of years. Gladys was active in her church for many years where she served as one of the adult Sunday Scholl teachers. Her church family was very important to her and she maintained close ties with many of them as long as her health permitted. She had a love for travel and adventure. She prepared for journeys by reading and studying the country or area she planned to visit. She kept a pictorial account and was well known for the presentations she would share with her family and circle of friends upon her return. She was an avid reader and loved nature.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Janice Deye of Blacklick, Ohio; two grandsons, Tyler (Kristen) Deye of Las Vegas, Nevada and Taylor (Brittany) Deye of Caroll, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Daxton Deye, Gracelynn Burchett-Deye and Emberlynn Deye; daughter-in-law, Edi Deye; former husband, Neil Deye; sister Janice (Frank) Schantz and a special niece, Linda Chadwell; plus several other nieces and nephews, all who will mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Deye; granddaughter, Lane Deye; husband, Bill Briggs; sisters, Arlie McCracken, Margie Williams and Marie Davis.

Calling hours will be held 12-2pm on Thursday, May 2, 2024 with funeral services at 2:00pm at Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio with Reverend Bob Woodrum officiating.

Burial will follow at the private family Cemetery in Perry County.
