Gladys Mae (Shaeffer) Householder

NEW LEXINGTON – Gladys Mae Shaeffer Householder, 88, of New Lexington, Ohio passed away on June 9, 2022 at The Beacon Assisted Living Facility in Gulf Breeze, Florida, where she had stayed for the past twelve months.

Born May 7, 1934 to the late Herbert and Lucy Wolfe Shaeffer, Gladys was a Lutheran by faith.  She was a 1952 graduate of New Lexington High School and married the love of her life, the late Robert Householder, on July 17, 1955, and together they had two sons, Mike and Mark.

Gladys was a secretary at many locations, to include Evans Reamer, Cheney Tire, and New Lexington High School, as well as a deputy clerk at the Perry County Courthouse.  She proudly served for 23 years under four judges from both political parties. 

Gladys was a consummate volunteer, having served for years as an Election Day poll worker, with the WELCA ladies at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Vacation Bible School, Grandview Heights Mothers Club, and multiple other groups.  She was well known for her homemade strawberry freezer jam that she lovingly shared with numerous family members and friends.  She was also known as the Card Lady at her church, sending cards for every occasion to her fellow church family members.  Gladys loved flowers, game shows, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cincinnati Reds, her husband and family, but most of all her Savior Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by brothers Herbert (“Junior”) and Paul, and sisters Forest Mills, Ruth Fauley, and Edna Ayers Burgess.  She has one remaining sister, Alice Grey, of Lancaster, Ohio.

Gladys is survived by son Mike (Ursula) Householder of Navarre, Florida, and their sons Nick (Ally) Householder and Steven (Kristi) Householder, her son Mark (Martine) Householder of Zanesville, Ohio, and their children Elaine (Ben) Joy and David (Morgan) Householder.  She also leaves behind her two precious great grandchildren, Liam and Carina Joy.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, June 16th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Roberts Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio. 

 A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Lexington on Friday, June 17th at 11:00 A.M., followed by a graveside service at New Lexington Cemetery officiated by Pastor Kris Santiago.   

A luncheon will be served at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church immediately following.
