Glenna Palmer Obituary

Glenna M. Palmer, 96, of Pickerington, Ohio passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Kobacker House, Columbus. She was born March 14, 1922 in Monroe Township, Perry County, Ohio near the village of Drakes, to the late Daine C. Maxwell Sr. and Olive (Linscott) Maxwell. She is survived by her son, Kelly Palmer, of the home; sister Wanda V. Weddle of Frederick MD; many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William D. Palmer on March 3, 2005; her parents; and her two brothers Daine C. Jr and Gailen W. Maxwell. Glenna was a 1939 graduate of Central High School in Hemlock.

She attended The Ohio State University and a secretarial school before putting her skills to work at Wright Field in Dayton during WWII. She married Bill on March 12, 1950. Moving from Drakes to Nelsonville, Zanesville, Marion, St. Clairsville and Pickerington due to his employment with Kroger. During this time Glenna worked for the Social Security Administration and became a stay at home mother and housewife for 14 years. She then went to work with Bill when he opened his own businesses in Newark and Pataskala. Glenna was a storehouse of family and local history. She was an avid photographer, loved to sew and enjoyed flower arranging. She was always there for her family in many capacities. She was a caregiver for her parents and husband. She was instrumental in the continuation of the annual Beech Grove Church Homecoming in Perry County. The 111th took place this year. She was a member of Trinity UMC, Pickerington. She was a lifetime member of the Country Music Association. She and Bill enjoyed many visits to Nashville. They mastered the road trip vacation, visiting all 50 states by 1961. Glenna belonged to many civic minded organizations over the years including several garden clubs, PTA, Southeast Ohio Woodlands Interest Group, Athens County Historical Society, Sunday Creek Associates and Little Cities of Black Diamonds among others. She enjoyed giving of her time, resources and effort to help others with projects to improve community. With that thought in mind, in lieu of flowers please consider donating to a charity of your choice.

Friends may visit 2-4 pm Friday at the ROBERTS-WINEGARDNER FUNERAL HOME, 304 Mill St., New Lexington, 43764. Graveside services will be private. Arrangements by Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, Pickerington.
