James Leckrone Obituary

James J. Leckrone, 74 of New Lexington, Ohio died at 4:48 pm on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital. He passed from this life surrounded by his family.

Jim was known as dad, big brother, uncle, friend, but most importantly grandpa. Jim would do anything for Taylor, Ben, and Max. Jim graduated from high school at St. Aloysius where he excelled at a variety of sports. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Rio Grande College and his Master of Arts from Xavier University. He was a lifetime educator who began his career as an English teacher and coach at Sheridan High School then served as athletic director at Maysville Schools for several years. The highlight of his career was the many years he spent as the principal of New Lexington High School. Even after retirement, he continued to support New Lexington City Schools and athletics. He will be remembered by the many students and fellow staff members whose lives he touched. Jim loved his family, his community, and his corvette. He had a nickname for everyone. The more he liked you, the more he teased you! He was an avid softball player for years. He also enjoyed golf and would rarely miss a Sunday Corvette run. He was an active member and trustee of the B.P.O.E. #509 New Lexington. As a member of the Elks, Jim was an integral part in writing grants to support the youth of New Lexington. He was a member of the Orange and Black Boosters, and served as a founding member of the New Lexington Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a lifetime member of the FFA Alumni and served on the board of directors at PerCo Inc.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter J. Leckrone and Kathryn Sue (Mortal) Leckrone; his wife, Donna (Puterbaugh) Leckrone; his brother-in-law, Ken Sparks and sister-in-law, Joy Walker.

He is survived by his children Todd (Lisa) Thompson and Sheri (Michael) Cobler; his grandchildren, Taylor Thompson, Ben Cobler, and Max Cobler; his sisters Jayne Sparks, Joan (Paul) Fink, Jill (Brian) Potts, and Judy (Kevin) Cannon as well as ten nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4pm & 6-8pm with Elks services at 8pm on Thursday, July 29, 2021 and from 10am-11am on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the New Lexington High School, 2547 Panther Drive, NE, New Lexington, Ohio.
