Joan V. Smock, 93, of New Lexington passed peacefully away January 1, 2021 at the Somerset Altercare.
Born August 30, 1927 in Thornville, Ohio, to F. Stanley and Helen V. Neel Lynn.
Joan graduated from New Lexington High School in the class of ‘45 and married Charles Smock April 21,1946. She began working at the courthouse in the offices of Judge Strode and Judge Tague along with Ned Watts. She worked many years at Newlon-Foraker and retired from Dusty Altier DL company. She was a very determined, feisty, and adventurous woman as she learned to fly and later soloed. She enjoyed golfing with her husband and in the Perry County women’s league. She loved sitting on her back porch watching over the First Street neighborhood.
She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Swinehart, Carol Smock, Linda Smith, and Jan (Marc) Henery. Her grandchildren, Jodie Jones, Troy (Deidra) Smock, Alison (Grant) Ontko, Grant Smith, Ty Henery, Kelsi (Jarrod) Barrera.
Her great grandchildren, Skyler Camarata, Colton Smock, Keegan, Madison, Reagan and Owen Ontko, Ryleigh and Addyson Jones, Hunter and Aubrey Barrera and her great great grandchildren, Ashlynn and Pierce Camarata.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on October 8, 2006 and a son- in-law, Allen Smith. She was the last remaining of her siblings and their husbands, Betty, Phylis (Robert) King, Maxine (Cecil) Fisher, and Norma (William) Ortman.
There will be a private service and burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery.
