Juan Carlos Garcia-Velez, “Kaki”, 60, died Friday, June 7, 2024 at Mount Aoysius in New Lexington, Ohio.
Kaki was born on April 27, 1964 in Richmond, Virginia to Carlos Garcia-Velez and Virginia Silva, the second of six children.
In 1972, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Kaki grew up. Always with a smile and a mischievous plan, Kaki could be counted on for countless games of catch, doing puzzles, a good “hey, hey,” and listening to music. Mother Teresa said, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” That was Kaki. His laugh was infectious and his love was pure and fierce. Kaki loved to give great hugs, hold your hand, blow kisses, light-up toys, and a great milkshake. Family comes in all shapes and sizes and over the years, the staff, including Sydney, Jenny and Tiffany, and residents at Mount Aloysius became Kaki’s adopted family. We are especially thankful to the staff and nurses at Mount Aloysius and Fairhope Hospice for their care, dedication and love for Kaki. Caring for the vulnerable among us with such love is the act of angels. We are ever grateful.
Kaki is survived by his mother Virginia Silva Garcia Velez, his father Carlos Garcia-Velez, his brothers and sisters; Sofi (Paul), Alvaro (Mary), Cecilia (Pat), Virginia (Adam), Danny (Odessa) and his nieces and nephews, Phil (Nadia), Ana (Pete), Ellie (Matt), Margot, Cristy, Sofi, Andy, Cecilia, Sam, Lucy, Benny, Teddy, Alex, Gus, Kate, Ollie, Tommy and Zoe, great nephews Johnny and Danny and great niece Nina and many, many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Calixto Garcia Velez, Carmen Mendieta, Josefina Arellano, and Dr. Alvaro Silva.
