Karen L. Vorhees of Junction City, Ohio, age 80, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 following a brief and unexpected illness. Karen was born February 20, 1942 at The Cherrington Hospital in Logan, Ohio to the late Lawrence Marvin Howard and Helen Mildred (Evans) Howard. In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by sister Sondra Crook, brother-in-law James Crook, father-in-law Jesse Vorhees, mother-in-law Peggy Vorhees, sister-in-law Jill Vorhees and aunt Lois Howard. Karen is survived by Larry, her husband of 58 years; children Brian (Marianne Patton) Vorhees and Lori (Roger) Howdyshell; six grandchildren, Jacob (Jillyan Adams) Vorhees, Joshua (Tanisha) Vorhees, Lane Vorhees, Rex (Macie Funk) Howdyshell, Jenna Howdyshell and Megan Howdyshell; seven great grandchildren, newborn Olivia Vorhees and her siblings Ava, Makynzie, Noah and Adelia and soon to be 2 year old Waylon Vorhees and his brother Max, brother-in-law Dale Vorhees, uncle Max Howard and many other special family members and friends. Karen graduated with the Class of 1960 of Logan High School. After graduation she worked at Little’s Jewelry Store in Logan, Ohio. She later worked for attorney Leslie G. Johnson of Logan then retired from Job and Family Services where she served as caseworker in Hocking, Ross and Pickaway counties. Karen loved and adored her family and friends. Larry and she enjoyed many years of traveling to various events for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren including square dances, horse pulls, county fairs, festivals, 4-H competitions, barrel racing, basketball games, softball games, cross country meets, dance recitals, football games, golf matches, soccer games, garden tractor pulls and antique tractor pulls. Karen was a member of New Lexington Baptist Church. She looked forward to attending Sunday morning services, Wednesday night Bible study and spending times of fellowship with her loving church family. Karen was an active member of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority Psi Chapter and was blessed by the love and friendship of her sorority sisters. Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at New Lexington Baptist Church located at 890 S. Main St. New Lexington. Service by Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority Psi Chapter following calling hours. Funeral service will be Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 1 p.m at the church with Pastor Jon Emory officiating. Burial to follow at New Lexington Cemetery. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Karen’s name.
