Richard Herges Obituary

Richard G. Herges, 77 of Corning, passed away Sunday January 8, 2023, at his home while surrounded by his family after a two-year battle with ALS. He was born October 5, 1945, in St. Cloud Minnesota the son of George and Marie Herges.

Richard joined the United States Air Force in January of 1968 where he served three years. While serving in the in the 753rd Radar Squadron where he was a construction equipment operator, he obtained the rank of sergeant. He was awarded an early discharge in January 1971 at which time he was honorably discharged.

He married the love of his life Carol on March 15, 1969. He was a member of the Grace Community Church of the Nazarene in New Lexington. He retired from the Pleasant Township garage where he worked as the township technician. He loved working outside in his gardens, working on woodworking projects in his shop, continuously updating and reconfiguring the house, he enjoyed going to flea markets, and camping, as well as watching anything on tv that was a western. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved picking on his grandkids and playing games with them especially euchre, which he cheated rather poorly at.

Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years Carol Herges: their three sons, Larry (Kelly) Herges, Michael (Alison) Herges, Christopher (Rose) Herges, one daughter Melinda (Bradley) Givens; seven grandchildren, Alex Herges, Nolan Herges, Dakota Herges, Derek (Destiny) Herges, Darcie Herges, Maddie Givens, Benjamin Givens, and soon to be grandson in law Dakota Simms.

In addition to his parents George and Marie Richard is preceded in death by his two brothers, Alvin, and Bill.

Calling hours will be held from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Gilkerson officiating.

Burial will follow with graveside military service by John Tague Post #188, American Legion, New Lexington at Whippstown Cemetery, Corning, Ohio.
