Robert J. Dodd, Jr. was born May 12, 1940 to Robert and Florence Greer Dodd in Columbus, Ohio. He was a graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School, John Carroll University, and the Ohio State University College of Law.
His legal career began as an Assistant Attorney General under William Saxbe. In 1970, he moved to New Lexington, where he practiced for over 50 years in the area of workers’ compensation and Social Security disability law, was nominated by his peers as a “Super Lawyer,” and was a member of state and local bar associations.
Bob loved his faith, family, sports, and his community. For many years, he coached St. Rose School basketball team, and spent weekends traveling to games on the roads in Perry and Morgan counties. Family vacations at the beach were a cherished annual event. He was a member of the Zanesville Country Club for 51 years, and also enjoyed his Thursday night rounds at Perry Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth, daughters Maureen, of Columbus, and Monica (Stephen) Lee of Chatsworth, NJ, sons Robert (Charity) of Mason and Daniel (Stephanie) of Granville, grandchildren Leslie, Sydney, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Patrick, Sophia, Blake, Cecilia, Frances, and Augustine, a brother, Richard, and Mary’s siblings, Jerome Brodish, M.D. and Connie Brodish. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Julia.
Visitation will be Friday, January 15, 2021, from 3-6 pm at the Roberts -Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington. Mass of Christian Burial for family and friends will be on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Rose Church in New Lexington.
Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery.
