Rolland E. (Rod) Wesney went to meet his Savior on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the age of 82. Rod was the fifth child of ten children born on September 24, 1940 to Nellie West Wesney and Elmer Wesney.
He was a 1958 graduate of Corning High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1963 during the Vietnam Era and received an honorable discharge in 1965. He held many jobs and retired as a supervisor from M.P. Dory Construction Company in 2006.
In 1980 God had a plan. Rod was introduced to a blind date. Her name was Marilyn Gottke. This started a lasting love of 43 years. Rod and Marilyn were married June 5, 1982 at the New Lexington Methodist Church by Rev. Penn.
After Marilyn retired in 2007, they became “snow birds” and lived their winter months in Okeechobee, FL. He enjoyed spending many hours on his boat fishing. He was a loving family man with many talents. He could make something out of nothing. His favorite past time was working on Diamond Dotz and sitting on the porch he built by hand watching the birds. He loved the outdoors and God’s beauty. He touched many lives.
In August 2022, Rod was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He put up a good fight and tried to be strong but succumbed to the terrible disease August 5, 2023.
Rod is a member of the New Lexington Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee. He was a member of the New Lex Elks, Junction City American Legion and a lifetime member of the Corning Eagles.
Rod is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn. Their children Trina Wesney, Terry (Todd) Walter and Troy Wesney, all of North Carolina. Robbie (Chris) Gottke of New Lexington and Lori (Todd Taylor) Fink of Junction City. His sisters Rose Stalter, Rita (Dave) Dickson and sister-in-law, Pat Wesney. His brothers, Richard (Helen) Wesney, Roy Wesney and Rodney (Doris) Wesney. He had 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.
Proceeding Rod in death besides his parents, his youngest daughter, Tammy Smith and granddaughter Erica Schiavone and son-in-law, Wes Fink. Sister Ruth (Ed) Ferguson. Brothers, Raymond (Joan), Ralph and Randy. Brother-in-law Wayne Stalter and sister-in-law Shirley Wesney.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2023 with Elks service at 7:45 PM at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 11, 2023 at the funeral home with Pastor Art Minnehan officiating.
Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery with graveside military services by James E. Fisher Post #376, American Legion of Junction City, Ohio.
