Royce Wood

Royce Wood was born in Excelsior Springs, Missouri to Kenneth Wood and Sharon Elliott on February 25, 1970, and died in a traffic accident in Perry County, Ohio on July 3, 2021. Royce was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife, Katy, and a caring and devoted father of daughters Anika and Grace. He is survived by his brother Jonathan, his sister-in-law Lisa, and their children, Silas, Seth, Levi and Isabella, as well as extended family in Kansas City.

After earning his Bachelor’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University and doing graduate work in economics at the University of Missouri Kansas City, Royce worked in the City of Kansas City’s budget office. In 2000, he took the position of legislative affairs specialist for the American Motorcyclist Association in Pickerington, Ohio. For many years Royce worked as an advocate for motorcyclist rights, and spent countless hours improving his own skills, track racing, and riding for fun.

He had motorcycling adventures to Copper Canyon in Mexico and to the Arctic Circle, as well as many road trips and track days with good friends. He always found the best dinner spots at the end of a long ride. He and Katy traveled together hiking with grizzly bears in Montana and sightseeing in England, and had many more adventures planned. His girls loved every camping and boating trip, especially the great meals he made at the campfire.

In 2015, Royce established an accessibility business and he cared deeply that his work helped people and created positive outcomes for so many. He was a natural teacher and was quick to share his opinions and views, he respected others and was patient but firm debating opposing ideas. His girls will miss his debates, big bear hugs and his eclectic music playing in the house. Friends will be advised of a private memorial service to be held in Ohio in the near future.
