Rudy R. Barnette, 86, of New Lexington, died peacefully at 1:10 PM, Friday, November 11, 2022, at Pickering House in Lancaster, surrounded by his family. He was born July 9, 1936, in Given, WV the son of Rude & Jemima (Davis) Barnett. He married Betty J. (Elia) Barnette on October 20, 1962, and attended Grace Community Church of the Nazarene.
Rudy served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. He was the owner of Barnette Tree Nursery, was Grounds Keeper of New Lexington City Parks, and had various jobs in construction.
He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Fan, and enjoyed watching Cincinnati Reds. He also enjoyed Dr. Pepper, his favorite drink of choice, hunting, gardening, playing horseshoes, family reunions, porch sitting, bowling, coaching youth baseball, and fishing. Rudy was a founding member of the Perry County Casters Club.
Rudy was a family man who greatly enjoyed the time he spent with them. He and Betty’s home was always open to anyone.
Rudy is survived by five children: Rick (Shana) Barnette, Randy Barnette, Rob (Michelle) Barnette, Rodney (Kelly Gleason) Barnette and Debbie (Chris) Russell all of New Lexington; his grandchildren: Ryan (Sierra) Barnette, Preston (Hanna) Barnette, Tabby Barnette, Breanna (Jesse) Palone, Dalton (Brooklyn) Barnette, Collin, Seth & Nicholas Russell, Caleb Barnette, Carlee (fiancé Christian Callahan) Barnette, Jacob, Andrew, Wyatt & Rudy Barnette; five great grandchildren: Raylee & Ruxton Palone, Sawyer, Graham & Bennett Barnette; many nieces, nephews, cousins, “adopted children” and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, Rudy was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 57 years: Betty Jane Barnette who passed away August 10, 2019; his beautiful daughter-in-law: Christie Barnette, who passed away November 3, 2021; siblings: his twin brother, Rondus Barnett, Delmar Barnette, Ralph Barnett, Eva Augenstein, Faye Ashcraft-Pollen and Clara Appleman.
Friends may call Monday, November 14, 2022, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Roberts Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, and one hour prior to services from 12 Noon to 1:00 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral home, where funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Jeff Gilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery with full military honors conducted by John Tague Post 188 American Legion, New Lexington. Memorial contributions may be made to Pickering House, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130-3461.
