Shelby Jean Shaeffer, 86, of Grove City, formerly of New Lexington, passed away, Monday, May 6, 2024, at The Ashford of Grove City. She was born, April 18, 1938, in New Lexington, the daughter of Paul H. Wilson and Della (Savage) Wilson and was Methodist by faith.
Shelby graduated from New Lexington High School in 1956. She married Herbert A Shaeffer Jr. in July of that year. They moved to Columbus, Ohio and raised two children. She loved her family very much and made sure she found a way to provide them with every educational opportunity, even if she had to work extra hours or another job. Shelby was a campfire leader and involved in little league sports. After her son joined the military and her daughter married they moved to Illinois for her husband’s job. She began traveling with him to many states. One of her dreams was to become a beautician so she went back to school and began her business out of her home. When they retired, they sold their house and bought a motor home to travel the United States. Occasionally, when they wanted to stay in one place for a while, they would become work/campers. On one of their trips they even took along three grandchildren and a nephew. Shelby has always been described by others as spunky, stylish, fun to be around, and she never met a stranger.
Shelby is survived by two children, Sharon S. (Ollie) Mabry of Grove City and James (Mary) Shaeffer of Columbus; five grandchildren, Rachael (Jeff) Taylor, Erica Mabry, Jessica (Nate) Sultemeier, Nicholas B. Shaeffer and Blair N. Shaeffer; eight great grandchildren; one brother Tom (Emily) Wilson of New Lexington and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert A. Shaeffer, Jr., and three siblings, Paul Wilson, Toby De Boer and Penny Johnson.
Private Graveside Services will be held and Shelby will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in New Lexington Cemetery. To sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note of condolence please visit www.robertsfuneralhomenewlex.com
