Sherry Ann Poling

Sherry Poling, 68, of Malta, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly in her home with her loving husband at her side on April 12, 2022.

Sherry was born on September 29, 1953, and is the daughter of N.L. “Dusty” and the late Dorothy (Stickdorn) Altier.

Sherry was a 1971 graduate of New Lexington High School. After high school she continued her education at Ohio Dominican College, where she earned a Bachelor’s in Special Education (’74), and she later graduated with a Master’s degree in reading from Colorado State University (’76). She taught special education in Bryan City Schools (Bryan, Texas) in 1977 and 1978, and also in Fayette County Schools (Lexington, Kentucky) from 1979 to 1993. In the latter half of the nineties, she continued her work in education in Ohio, serving for several years as a principal at Pioneer Elementary in Zanesville; and as principal at both West and South Elementaries in Morgan County, retiring from Morgan County Schools in 2020. During the past two years she continued working through the Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center as a Care Team Coordinator and an Attendance Officer for several southeastern Ohio schools.

Sherry was a loving and caring wife and mother, “nan/nanna” and friend. She was happiest when she was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandkids. Her grandkids were her world!

Sherry is survived by her husband and best friend, Robert “Bob” Poling; children Stori (Householder) Atchison, Sage (Keelia) Householder, Danny (Ashley) Poling, Nikki (Shawn) Enright, and Robby (Kasey) Poling; her grandchildren Peyton, Westin and Caycen Atchison, Chance and Clay Householder, and Kamryn, Kipley, Kole and Krew Poling. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Altier; brother in-laws Steve Finley, Don Poling, Mike Poling and Tom Russell; sister in-laws Carol Poling, Aldonna Poling and Cindy Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, Sherry was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy (Altier) Finley, and her in-laws Gene and Esther Poling.

Calling hours will be held from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm on Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at the funeral home with Reverend Richard Newlon officiating.

Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery.
