Joseph Rex Huffman, Sr., 77 of New Lexington, Ohio died at 8:59pm on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Willow Haven Nursing Home, Zanesville, Ohio.
Born September 28, 1940 in New Lexington, Ohio to the late Rex and Bertha Devol Huffman.
Joe was a 1958 Graduate of New Lexington High School; attended Marietta College and got double degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Mathematics in 1962; member of the 1950’s All Decade Marietta College Football Team.
He was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Ohio Army National Guard; member of B.P.O.E. #509, New Lexington, New Lexington Eagles #2070; former member of the New Lexington Jaycees and former school board member for New Lexington City Schools; he was a co-founder of biddy league football in Perry County and ran little league baseball for several years.
Joe made education a priority for his children and he loved coaching all sports that his boys were involved in; he loved to ski and vacation with his family; after his retirement, he served as a substitute teacher throughout the county for several years. He was a loving Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle.
Survived by 4 children, Elizabeth Huffman Zann of Delray Beach, FL., Ron Huffman of Zanesville, Joseph R. (Paula) Huffman, Jr. of Zanesville and John (Teresa) Huffman of Sylvania, GA.; grandchildren, Tyler, Eaonne, Jonathan, Sara, A.J., Andy, Josh, Spencer, Jessica, Adam, Allie, Chris, Eve and Aubrey; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Bowers and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, preceded in death by his wife, Becky Storts Huffman and a son-in-law, Dr. Robert Zann.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4pm on Saturday, November 4, 2017 and from 2-4pm & 6-8pm with Elks services at 7:45pm on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio; calling hours one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, 126 South High Street, New Lexington, Ohio with Reverend Greg Inboden officiating.
Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery, New Lexington, Ohio.
