Sylvia Pearl (Hiles) Charles

Sylvia Pearl Charles passed away at 8:43am on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House, Zanesville, Ohio.

Born September 24, 1920 in Shawnee, Ohio to the late David and Sylvia Anguish Hiles.

She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1938; member of the Somerset Church of Christ, where she had been a Bible Class teacher for many years; member of Jackson-Rehoboth Grange and a 50 year member of Carnation Chapter #167, O.E.S. in New Lexington. She had been a member of LSC Club for over 60 years; she was a 4-H Advisor for several years and was on the Perry County Fair Board the first year the fair was re-organized.

She married Thomas A. Charles on May 20, 1939; she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Caren Charles of Zanesville; one daughter, Charlotte Tatman of New Lexington; one grandson, Jonathan and Brittany Charles of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; one great-granddaughter, Reagan Elizabeth Charles; one great-grandson, Ethan Tatman of Columbus and Erica Tatman (Carl’s widow) of Lancaster.

In addition to her parents, preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Charles, February 7, 1998; two grandsons, Curt Tatman in 1998 and Carl Tatman in 2016; one brother, Andrew Hiles; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Lillie Hiles, Leona and Delmas Lehman, Edna and Raymond Norris, Leota and Roy Browning; her step-mother, Emma Hiles, her son-in-law, Charles Tatman; her mother and father-in-law, George and Isabelle Williams Charles; sister-in-law, Lucille (Walter) Waller and brother-in-law, James (Mabel) Charles.

Calling hours will be held from 5pm-8pm on Thursday, March 2, 2017 and from 10am-11am on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday at the funeral home with Minister Keith Kress officiating.

Burial will follow at New Lexington Cemetery.
