Saddened by his passing. No matter how much time had passed Jimmie always called me by name and had time to say hello. I had the pleasure to sit with his mother and she encouraged me to become a nurse and to this day if I'm asked why I'm a nurse I say "Because Mid Thompson said it was my calling". Rest in peace Jimmie, you will be missed

To the Thompson family-- expressing my deepest condolences for the loss of your father. What a great man-- I will always remember my father's great relationship with Jimmie. One of Jimmie's numerous volunteering efforts was filming New Lex High School football games on Friday night during the '60's and '70's from the roof of the old press box and Jimmie so impressed my Dad with his ability to catch everything that was happening on the field--all the action-- Jimmie took so much pride in everything he touched! We have lost another outstanding contributor from our Greatest Generation. God Bless You, Jimmie!

Steve, Sheri, Kent, and Vicky,
I am sorry to hear of your dad's passing. When I think of him, I think of a wonderful smile because he always had one. And so did your Mom. I have fond memories of our joint family outings as we were growing up. Steve Swallow said it all so well-you were blessed with wonderful parents.

Steve, Sheri, Kent, Vicky, & families,
I've waited 'til later in these messages to express condolences from the Swallow family. I was so shocked & saddened when I read the email obit the day after his passing having seen him so much especially recently at Am. Legion & NLHS Alumni events. I always tried to seek him out to speak to & sometimes met him coming towards me. Our families paralleled so much over the years. I always greatly admired & respected your mom & dad. My dad grew up in McConnelsville area as your mom did, & I remember going to that Blue Bell often for ice cream as a kid when visiting relatives. Our fathers were WWII vets & our moms, teachers - both inducted into NLHS Teachers Hall of Fame. Our grandfathers & fathers had Main St. businesses at the same time. Steve & I have been friends since either Kindergarten or 1st grade, and I remember your dad coaching his LL baseball when I played on an opposing team. We played in Band through high school together when he went on to OSU Marching Band like your dad did, and I went on to play in military bands like your dad did. And, yes, I started playing "Taps" in high school, also, until my retirement from the military in 1992. I was thrilled when your dad started playing "Taps" several years ago for our Am. Legion. And I can't tell you how many times I've listened to the "Taps" recording on this web site.......it's just beautiful!!! I remember all of you "kids", and your parents were extremely proud of you. I hope I haven't gone on too long, but some memories just had to be shared to show what wonderful folks you had. Hoping to come down from Columbus for Monday's funeral, I will be keeping all of you in my thoughts & prayers. May God give you comfort & peace at this time.
Your Friend Forever.................Steve

Mr. Thompson was such a classy man, I could only call him MR. Thompson, never Jimmie. He was great friend to our Scout Troop, when 261 was the "new kIds" and his 212 was the "cream of the crop", his campfire was always open to us.

My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. At the 2015 alumni dinner he talked with me, and we were so glad that each of us was not alone in being in a wheel chair to make it easier to get around such a large area. Jimmie was a great person and leaves a wonderful legacy. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Take care,
